Introducing… Mr. Joe Fairless
by Dave Van Horn
The first time I met Joe Fairless (host of the upcoming “Best Ever Conference” – use discount code PPRBEST) in person, I believe, was while waiting for an Uber outside the Scottish Rite in downtown Oakland. We were both attending the second annual SF Bay Summit, held by J Martin.
It was the end of the first day, and I see a guy sitting on the curb that looked very familiar to me. In my line of work, speaking across the country and meeting investors, sometimes it’s tough to put a name to a face.
So I said, “Hey, you look familiar…” and he responded, “So do you. I’m Joe Fairless.”
And that’s when it hit me.
“Oh, I know you! We’ve done a podcast together.”
It was two years earlier, in fact. Back in the fall of 2014, his organization first reached out to me about doing an episode. If it was maybe a year or two earlier, I probably would have thought, “What’s a podcast?” But having a few under my belt at this point, I remember thinking, “Okay well, I don’t have time for a podcast interview,” before asking my assistant, “Who is this Joe Fairless guy, anyway?”
Well, needless to say, I soon found out.

From Corporate America to Real Estate and Podcasting
He and his organization were persistent and I admired their tenacity to get me on a call. Little did I know then the story behind Joe and his genius marketing. Before embarking in Real Estate, Joe started his career in the world of Advertising in New York City, quickly rising the ranks to become the youngest Vice President in the history of his award-winning Ad Agency.
Then he made the shift into SFR investing. Not long after he decided he wanted to go bigger but he needed a way to get there. So he took what was a relatively newer medium and went all in, dedicating much of his career to being a podcaster; often even recording multiple podcasts daily.
With persistence and tenacity he still continues today, having interviewed some of the best of the best in the industry and beyond – including Barbara Corcoran, Robert Kiyosaki, Tony Hawk, the list goes on and on. In fact, he has since turned his podcast into one of the most popular on iTunes, holding a record for the longest running Real Estate podcast ever!
With an enormous following, Joe has also parlayed his podcasting career into raising private money, now controlling over $265,000,000 worth of real estate, primarily in multifamily apartment units across the U.S.
And to think, I almost blew him off!
Then I meet him, and I almost didn’t recognize him! Well, fortunately for me, and those of you attending our MidAtlantic Summit this Spring, I now know who Joe Fairless is.
And if you aren’t familiar with him, you’ll soon know him, too.
Two Ways to Spend Time with Joe Fairless
Since our first podcast, we recently completed a second episode, more specifically focused on the topic of raising capital and Joe has even added a live component to his show by creating and hosting the “Best Ever Conference” in Denver, Colorado (use discount code PPRBEST). Now in its second year, this year’s event has an incredible lineup and takes place on February 10th & 11th at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
With all of his accomplishments and work over the years, Joe was an obvious choice for us when we began looking for Keynote Speakers for the event. So we will be honored to host Joe Fairless as the “Best Ever” Keynote Speaker at the very first MidAtlantic Real Estate Investor Summit in Center City Philadelphia, April 21st and 22nd.
Don’t Miss Joe Fairless’ Keynote at the MidAtlantic Summit!
I know the East Coast real estate investor crowd is all jazzed to hear Joe speak about multifamily investing, as I know I am as well. I hope with my little introduction to Joe and his work, you are too.
